About This Site
Welcome. I’m happy you found me! This blog documents my journey from a time when a debilitating illness controlled my life, to better times when I took control back by embracing fitness. I have to work hard every day to keep my disease under control, but living a fit life lets me focus on wellness instead of illness.
I’m guessing there is someone in your life who struggles with health challenges. Maybe it’s even you. If you read this blog and come to trust me, know that I am here to help you find solutions similar to what has worked for me. That’s what this is about. We can identify meaningful change together…commitments and pursuits that can help you overcome the challenges that your diagnosis puts in front of you.
Living with illness is excruciating. Most people don’t understand the challenges, so you may feel lonely and misunderstood, in addition to being sick. A disease is a disruption to your life and it becomes your identity. It turns your life upside down. You tend to focus on things you can no longer do instead of focusing on what you know you can do.
I am living proof, however, that you can thrive through illness. When I realized I could no longer do the things I used to do, I had to find other ways to engage my body in the gym. Fitness was my passion even before my diagnosis, so it is what I chose as my defense against illness. And it works! You can do the same, especially if you already know what drives you.
Whatever your obstacles are, they are yours, right here, right now. Embrace the good days, but embrace the bad days even more. Health challenges might wreak havoc on our bodies, but they could also help you discover extraordinary things about yourself. Use my journey as an example to help you set your own course to owning the obstacles and clearing the hurdles. I am here to teach you how to listen to your body and pay attention to your feelings. Sometimes that means saying no. Sometimes you have to stop doing things that are too difficult or painful. It’s okay to turn down the volume. It’s okay to say no because when you say no to something you free up capacity to say yes to other things that help.
If you don’t take care of yourself, what else do you have? I’m positive your family and friends want you to take care of yourself. Let’s find what works for you. It’s the most worthwhile thing you can do to win out over your diagnosis. Don’t you agree?
